My Credit Report is incorrect. How do I go about fixing the discrepencies that are on it?

There are a few things on my credit report which were taken care of in 2003. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

Experian are the UK's biggest credit reference agency, they can give you a report and allow you to ammend it, just about all credit companies use this one to judge your credit worthyness.

Write to the company who produced the report explain the exact situation and they should be able to get this amended for you.

You need to write to the credit reporting agency you got the report from, and provide them with proof the items you are disputing have been cleared.

I tried that – it's a whole world of pain. I wouldn't even bother!!

You need to provide evidence and send to the company that is holding the credit information and they should put it right.

You need to find out which credit reference agency the company who brought this to your attention used, then contact that credit reference agency and ask them to update their records.

If you don't do that, and you leave it, those things will be on your Credit Scoring for 7 years.

The Credit reference agencies, do not remove anything unless prompted to do so, by the individual.

As said write the letters, but in doing so, you need to make sure you keep copies of what you have done. Be aware of all that is on your credit report and what you have done to repair it. If you should ask for a loan and you are well versed as to its contents it will help not only in getting a loan but maybe the interest rate as well.

OH, also be prepared to write maybe more than just one letter, I in the past had to write several to clear up a matter with a company.

Good Luck!!

Mosts credit reporting companies let you dispute items listed on your report. In many cases you can do this online. Just go to the website of the company that produced the report. Type in the report # and go through the stept to dispute an item. You can also call them. It is actually pretty simple.

Follow the instructions from the credit reporting agency. When you pulled your report, it included detailed instructions on how to challenge incorrect items.

Keep in mind that if you cleared a charge-off or paid off an overdue account that it will still show up on your credit report. It should reflect the status as paid, but the negative history will still be there for up to 7 years. You can't change that.

Even though you can "take care" of defaults or ccj's unfortunately they stay on your credit file for 6 years, once you get a ccj (satisfied) it is not removed – so in future don't bother paying them you don't get any brownie points for paying once they are ccj's in our credit scoring system. Sorry sweet your stuck with em until 2009.

write to the company you originally obtained your credit file from. They will take up the matter up with the relevant agency. Or you can dorectly contact the lenders and ask them to correct it for you.
