how do credit cards and gas work?

what if you just didnt pay your credit card bill but bought gas? thatd be a waste of the earths natural resources going unpaid for. how does that work?

the credit company pays the vendor and then takes it out on the non payee in the forms of high interest, collection costs, possible litigation, and damaged credit line
