I have something fraudulent on my credit report. I need to get it removed, what is the procedure for this?

An account was opened using my personal information, and a debt is owed to a company. I have told several collection agencies that this is a fraudulent account and I will not pay it. Since then, it has shown on my credit report and is severely affecting my credit. How can I get this blocked or removed? Please provide any guidance or resources. Thank you!

1. Report it to the police as "identity theft".
2. Send letters to each of the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) saying that you dispute this bill (or collection or whatever) on the grounds that you did not open or use the account.
