Do you find Wescot Credit Services Ltd are quite bad for customer service?

as in rudeness and aggresive so to speak to the point, they called today and they kept asking for my sister. I told them she isn’t here but they kept pushing aggressively to speak to her, I had to kept clarifying and repeating myself "THIS PERSON IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE" so I got fed up and said "FORGET IT". Really bloody aggressive aren’t they for a company?

Westcot are a DCA (Debt collection agency) they buy debts from other companies for a few pence in the pound and look to recover the original amount plus from the debtor. Although there are guidelines in place about how they should deal with people they are largely ignored by many DCAs. I have experience of dealing with these companies both personally and for others and can assure you that you are not alone they can be downright nasty and abusive. The FSA and the OFT are both looking to gather as much infrmation as possible on these abusive DCA calls so have a look at their websites or even call them. If they call again tell them that if they don’t stop calling a cease and desisist notice from your solicitor will be served on them along with a bill for the solicitors costs. Keep a note of any and all calls date/time theperson’s name (if they’ll give it to you).

Just like ALL credit companies – they rely on lists such as the electoral roll.

They can only act on the information they have ! If the electoral roll shows your sister registered at your address they WILL keep trying to contact her there. If she GENUINELY doesn’t live there – you have the right (under the Data Protection Act) to have Westcote amend their database to reflect the fact.

However – if you do this JUST so she can avoid them – you commit the offence of fraud !

These sort of companies have to follow strict rules, by harassing you they are almost certainly breaking the rules. Contact the citizens advice bureau who will know how to go about reporting them to the appropriate regulatory organisation.

The other answers all give sound advice. In addition if they are still rude and refuse to hang up just say ‘just a minute’ and put the phone down on the table (do not hang up). Just let them stay on the line until they do give up.You may as well waste their time as they are wasting yours.
