Do you know of any good, honest credit counseling services?

My husband and I would like to try one.
Thanks!

For starters, "credit counseling" will count roughly as much as a "home repossession" on your credit report.
On top of that, the counseling agencies can't do anything you can't do yourself for free.
What you really need is to take control of your own finances … budgeting, trimming expenses, not spending money you don't have … etc etc.

CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING SERVICES OF GREATER DALLAS, My Husband and Myself used them for our debt. They were great, very informative. You can look up their phone number online.

local yellow pages.

look for the non-profit that has been in business for at least a decade. then ask your banker if she/he thinks they're an honest firm.

[call every one in the yellow pages and ask if they're non-profit -- although most non-profits say so pretty plainly.]

Have you tried contacting your creditors yourself and setting up the same things a credit counseling service would without you having to pay them. I'd seriously suggest you visit creditboards.com to seek advice on fixing your credit yourself.

I am using these people right now, they are non profit:

I haven't had any problems with them and they are very friendly, but be prepared to live with no credit for awhile because it wrecks your credit rating going through a DMP.

In all honesty, I don't know of a single one. They insist upon payment immediately, and they often don't pay on time, which puts you in a worse situation then you started out with.

Also, they don't do anything you can't do yourself. Check out the three articles below. One tells you how your score is calculated and tricks to bring your score up.

The second tells you how to deal with creditors and collection agencies, and what your rights are when dealing with them.

The third tells you how to clean your TRW report and bring your score up as much as 200 points in 30 days. This is something you can do yourself and it can be done online.

Hope this helps.
